About Sierra

Growing up, I was fortunate to be given the opportunity to take on leadership roles in my community at an early age. I began teaching martial arts at the age of 12, and continued to develop my leadership skills through peer counselling, working with youth at the YMCA, and judging national and international martial arts competitions.

I transferred from the University of Victoria to McGill University in 2008, and graduated in 2010 with a Double Major in History and Philosophy and a Minor in History. During my time at McGill, I became involved in a number of organizations that focused on creating an inclusive community at the university, both socially and academically. In particular, I was actively involved in the Student Organization of Alumni Relations (VP Services), the McGill History Students’ Association (Major Rep), the Arts Undergraduate Society Academic Affairs Committee, Golden Key tutoring and Arts Undergraduate Society Peer Tutoring.

As a 1L Caucus Representative I worked hard to ensure student consultation on key issues such as grading reform, the LRW program, 1L course-load concerns, and changes to the 1L curriculum. I took initiatives to ensure that the SLS was responsive to student concerns and took effective actions towards this goal, such as surveying the class and hosting focus-group discussions. I have endeavoured to maintain and expand the partnership between the SLS and CDO by engaging the CDO directly to identify how the SLS can provide complementary services. I believe in and have demonstrated principled advocacy to ensure students’ views are taken seriously.
